Lubbock Chamber Hosts Ground Breaking for Marsha Sharp Freeway

The ground breaking for Phase 4 of the Marsha Sharp Freeway took place today in Lubbock, Texas. The event was hosted by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and attended by local and state TxDOT officials, including TxDOT Executive Director Amadeo Saenz; Texas Transportation Commissioner Fred Underwood; City of Lubbock Mayor Tom Martin; and Eddie McBride, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce President.  Construction will begin this week on the $48 million project which will connect I-27 and West Look 289, two major freeways in Lubbock.

"This phase is key to connecting portions of the city with downtown and Texas Tech as well as creating easier access to North and East Lubbock" said McBride.  "We appreciate the efforts of local officials and Texas Transportation Commissioner Fred Underwood of Lubbock, along with the rest of the TXDOT Commission, for helping Lubbock get this phase of the freeway completed 12 years ahead of schedule and well under budget."
