TxDOT Seeks Public Comment for Transportation Planning

Texans will have the opportunity to provide input into the planning of their transportation system for the next few weeks. TxDOT opened up the process this week by inviting the community to submit their comments and suggestions on proposed revisions to department transportation planning and programming rules.

TxDOT assembled an 11-person Transportation Planning and Project Development Rulemaking Advisory Committee last summer that drafted the regulations now open for comment.  The committee includes metropolitan planning organization, local government, transit organizations, tolling authorities and the Federal Highway Administration officials.

The department and the advisory committee have been working on development of draft rules in order to establish a comprehensive transportation planning and project development program that is transparent, well-defined and understandable. Information gathered from public comments in response to the Texas Register Notice will assist in development of those rules.

TxDOT will accept comments until April 19.  The advisory committee will then present draft rules to the Texas Transportation Commission with final approval expected later this year.
