National Journal: "What Difference Would an 18-Month Delay in Reauthorization Make?"
Last week, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood proposed that Congress immediately replenish the Highway Trust Fund (that is expected to run out of money by August 2009). This would give Congress an additional 18 months to decide in which direction they think the country should go in terms of spending and funding, and consider all ideas to develop transportation legislation that carries out a well-vetted plan.
