Legislation of interest:
HB 9 by Truitt: Relating to local options regarding transportation and mobility improvement projects in certain counties. This legislation would give certain counties the ability to increase certain fees and the gas tax. This bill's companion has already been significantly amended and passed by the Senate. (Senate companion: SB 855 by Carona)
HB 11 by Leibowitz: Relating to repeal of authority for the establishment and operation of the Trans-Texas Corridor. This legislation would remove references in the Tax and Transportation Codes to the Trans-Texas Corridor.
HB 13 by Leibowitz: Relating to the operation of a state highway or segment of a state highway as a toll project. This legislation would change the criteria the Transportation Commission currently uses when considering toll projects.
HB 1674 by Villarreal: Relating to funding for county transportation needs. This legislation would allow Bexar County to call a special election and allow voters to approve or disapprove of increasing fees such as license registration or vehicle miles traveled (VMT) fees.
HB 2116 by Pickett: Relating to the issuance by the Texas Transportation Commission of general obligation bonds for highway improvement projects. This legislation would enable the Transportation Commission to issue up to $5 billion in highway funding bonds that were appoved by Texas voters in November 2007. This bill's Senate companion has already passed the Senate Transportation Committee on Friday, April 17, but has not been scheduled for hearing on the Senate floor. HB 3448 by Rodriguez: Relating to local options regarding transportation and mobility improvement projects in certain counties. Enabling legislation for HJR 122.
HJR 9 by Truitt: Proposing a constitutional amendment allowing the expenditure of motor vehicle fuel taxes and registration fees for passenger rail, transit, and freight rail. This legislation would allow voters to approve or disapprove giving a county the authority to assess a local gas tax and an additional vehicle registration fee for mobility improvement projects, including passenger rail, transit, and freight rail systems. This bill's Senate companion has already passed the Senate. (Senate companions: SJR 24 by Carona, SJR 52 by Davis, and HJR 122 by Rodriguez)
