The following statement can be attributed to Bill Noble, executive director of Texans for Safe Reliable Transportation:
“The Commission’s adoption of the expanded list of staff-recommended projects for economic stimulus funding demonstrates good stewardship of our state’s road system, creative leveraging of taxpayer money and fiscal responsibility.
“This money and the additional funds it is leveraging for much-needed road projects will put thousands of people to work here in Texas on shovel ready projects and spur economic growth across the state.
“The process to identify shovel ready projects demonstrates TxDOT’s desire for openness, accountability and strong local cooperation, and produced a regionally diverse group of projects.
“We urge our lawmakers to be mindful that federal funding is not the answer for longer term funding solutions Texas desperately needs and ask lawmakers and TxDOT to work together this Session to find comprehensive solutions for equitable, long term transportation funding.”
